If you're part of the "there's no black people making comics" crowd, or you're always screaming "there's not enough women artists in the industry"... You probably need to lay off the caffeine. But don't worry, I'm not gonna take your Starbucks from you. I just recommend you read this preview of the upcoming Top Cow series GENIUS while you sip your caramel macchiato...
Here's the sales pitch:
MATURE READERS ONLY
What if the greatest military mind of our generation was born to a people who are already supremely conditioned to wage war, who know nothing but violence since birth, and must continually adapt to new predators in order to survive? What if the second coming of Alexander the Great, of Genghis Khan, of Napoleon, of Patton...what if it was a teenaged girl from South Central, L.A. named Destiny? And what if she decides to secede three blocks of the ‘Hood from the Union? Who is going to take it back from her and her army of gangbangers? Who CAN? From writers MARC BERNARDIN and ADAM FREEMAN (Alphas, X-Men Origins: Nightcrawler, The Authority, The Highwaymen) and rising-star artist AFUA RICHARDSON comes a harrowing, action-packed tale of a city that declares war on a brilliant young woman pushed to the edge.
I am SO FREAKING DOWN with this! Genius has a unique look to it that sets it apart from anything on stands now, and for those of you not familiar with Afua Richardson, these pages barely scratch the surface of what she can do.
In short, this chick is dope. Afua approaches drawing comics with as much humility, intellectual curiosity, and work ethic as talent. She has the aptitude and attitude to be great, and I have enjoyed watching her grow in the art and craft of making comics. So excited every time I see her getting more shine in the industry.
So I'm obviously looking forward to copping Genius #1 when it appears in shops August 6th. If you liked this preview, make sure your comic shop has ordered it, so you can get a copy. I'm sure stores will under order it, making it hard to find later on, so don't sleep!
