When I heard they were rebooting Thunderbolts without Luke Cage as the leader, my interest in the comic vanished. Then I read this preview starring General Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross recruiting an all-star team of anti-hero badasses for his own personal strike team. Interest unlocked...
Here's the sales pitch:
Red Hulk, Venom, Elektra, Deadpool, the Punisher. Forget the courts, the jails, the system — this team of Thunderbolts fights fire with fire, targeting the most dangerous and lethal players in the Marvel Universe with extreme prejudice. Led by General “Thunderbolt” Ross, AKA the Red Hulk, this hand-picked team of like-minded operatives is going to make the world a better place…by all means necessary.
If General Ross is Red Hulk, why doesn't he have a mustache? Anyways, that doesn't matter! This looks interesting. I loved the Luke Cage-anchored Thunderbolts book, and I'm sure I wasn't alone. But it ain't show friends, it's show business! I can smell money in this ultra-violent all-star iteration of Thunderbolts, and as a recovering Marvel Zombie I can appreciate the involvement of General "Thunderbolt" Ross, 'stache-less Red Hulk and all. The Marvel Universe is certainly full of D-list villains that these Thunderbolts can ventilate.
Perhaps way and Dillon's Thunderbolts will be employed to clean the so-called House of Ideas of some of the crappy villains of the past couple decades, like Scourge did in his killing spree back in this classic Captain America storyline.
We shall see justice served like lightning, as Thunderbolts #1 drops December 5th.
