Start the day off Right w/the immortal J Dilla

nothing beats some good music on a Sunday morning to get the creative juices flowing. Case in Point: Here's a fly portrait of legendary hip hop maestro, the late, great J. Dilla by the mighty Chris Herod.
"Listening to the brilliant Miguel Atwood-Ferguson Suite for Ma Dukes inspired this Dilla piece..." said Herod when he dropped this fly joint on Facebook. Mochilla Presents Timeless: Suite For Ma Dukes is a recording of a 60 piece orchestra interpreting some of Dilla's best compositions, and represents hip hop mood music at it's finest!

here's some youTubery from the live recording at Cal State in 2009.
"Miguel Atwood-Ferguson and his 40-piece orchestra managed to set the entire Luckman Fine Arts Plaza afloat on Sunday night with Timeless: Suite for Ma Dukes, their gorgeous re-imagining of J Dillas best known works. Surprise guests filtered in throughout the night, including Common, Talib Kweli andPosdnuous from De la Soul. Dillas inspiring mother was a beacon throughout the performance, small in stature but mighty in spirit." (read more on Mochilla Timeless youtube channel)

this one is a live performance of De La Soul's classic joint Stakes Is High (with Kweli standing in for Trugoy) recorded at that same show. If you're familiar with the original songs these records come from, this kind of performance is spine-tingling. Most rap enthusiasts were already fans of Dilla's music, even if they didn't know his name. If you're not familiar with him, this is a fine introduction... now get ta googlin'!!!
Have a great day...
